One of the greatest runners in Valley history, Barker-Davis was excellent enough to train for the 1975 Pan American Games and 1976 Olympics.

Barker was a three-time state champion in the 60- and 100-meter dash events while at Weslaco High School, and also advanced to state in the long and triple jumps.

In 1973 she was an AIAW National Champion in the 100- and 440-meter dash events while running for Texas Woman's University, where she helped win national team titles in 1971 and 1973. Barker was selected to the U.S. Track and Field Association team in 1973 and was a medalist at both the World University Games in Moscow and the Pacific International Games in Canada during that memorable year.

Barker trained for the Olympics and Pan Am Games after college, and later coached track and field at Plano High School from 1975-83, producing two state champions.
