Rodriguez has been a ubiquitous figure in Valley sports since the 1970s, with a tireless work ethic and a knack for detail and organization-building.

He wrote about area sports for 35 years and has received a plethora of awards, including the Texas High School Coaches Association award for excellence in 1987. That same year he was nominated for Sportswriter of the Year by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.

In his career, he has covered thousands of sporting events across just about every sport and has been an integral part of the foundation and growth of the RGV Sports Hall of Fame. Along the way, Rodriguez has contributed countless articles in statewide newsletters and been on many committees working to earn All-State honors for Valley players.

Rodriguez was co-founder of the RGV Sports Hall of Fame in 1985.
